Sweet-scented Easter cake

Although there are various variations of the recipe, the basic idea remains the same – a rich and aromatic cake that carries a long tradition and symbolism.

  • 125 g Zdenka butter
  • 300 g of sugar
  • 1 vanilla sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • orange and lemon peel
  • 5 eggs
  • 2 tablespoons of rum
  • 1 cube of fresh yeast
  • 500 ml of milk
  • 1400 g of flour

Combine Zdenka butter, sugar, vanilla sugar, salt, orange and lemon zest, eggs, rum and yeast developed in milk with a mixer. Gradually add the flour. Leave the dough to rest for 15 minutes.

Add a little oil and stir, then cover the dough with transparent foil and let it rise for about an hour. Knead again on a floured surface. Divide the dough into two or three equal parts, form balls, adding flour as needed, and let them rest for 20 minutes. Coat them with beaten egg yolk and cut in the shape of a cross. Add granulated sugar and a cube of butter.

Bake the cake for 30-35 minutes at 180 C.
