Mozzarella & Pesto Christmas Tree Snacks

These decorative and delicious savory puff-pastry trees are perfect for holiday gatherings. They’re filled with aromatic pesto and Zdenka Mozzarella sliced cheese, and finished with a little star cut from firm or semi-firm Zdenka cheese.

Ingredients

  • 2 sheets puff pastry (thawed)
  • 3–4 tbsp pesto (choose classic, red, or basil pesto)
  • Zdenka Mozzarella sliced cheese
  • 1 egg
  • Fresh herbs (basil or parsley, finely chopped)
  • Zdenka firm or semi-firm cheese – for cutting out stars after baking
  • Wooden skewers

Instructions

  • Roll out one sheet of puff pastry on a piece of baking paper.
  • Spread the pesto evenly over the pastry.
  • Arrange slices of Zdenka Mozzarella over the pesto, covering the surface as much as possible.
  • Place the second sheet of puff pastry on top.
  • Cut the pastry into straight strips about 1.5–2 cm wide.
  • Fold each strip into the shape of a small Christmas tree (e.g., left–right in alternating “pleats”). Gently thread them onto wooden skewers to help maintain their shape.
  • Beat the egg and mix it with the finely chopped fresh herbs.
  • Brush the trees with this aromatic mixture.
  • Bake in a preheated oven at 190 °C for about 12–15 minutes, until golden and nicely puffed.
  • Once baked, let the trees cool for 1–2 minutes. Cut small stars from the firm or semi-firm Zdenka cheese using a cookie cutter and carefully place them at the top of each skewer above the tree.
